1、包同样份量的馅料,可以用更少的面粉;

2、用更少的面粉,就意味着和面可以更省力;

3、同样份额的面粉,如果把饺子皮做得更大些,就意味着需要擀的饺子皮总数就可以更少些;

4、饺子皮总数少了,需要包的饺子个数就少了;

5、虽然饺子个数少了,但是,吃到的牛肉白菜馅还是一样多;

‘Outside: Top renaissance cities 2008’(www.cooltownstudi.com)

outdoormag-besttowns2008
We’ve seen endless list of best places to live, work, walkable etc. etc., but here’s one that looks at the best cities that are remixing, reinventing themselves - Best Towns 2008 from Outside magazine.

Washington DC - Recently revitalized Adams Morgan, U Street, and Chinatown are attracting creatives in droves, recent mayors have brought strong leadership, and DC just introduced the first bike sharing system in the U.S. Plus the newly formed CreativesDC social network!
Chattanooga, TN - The city rebranded itself as an outdoors destination, investing $120 million in the waterfront, a Renaissance Park, adding 2000 downtown trees and their own Greenspaces green building program. For a big city, Chattanooga has a rare sense of collaborative spirit.
New Orleans, LA - No where in the world is their more grassroots initiative, resulting in inspiring projects from the musician’s village to a celebrity chef Edible Schoolyard program to the Young Urban Rebuilding Professionals and their upcoming CoolTown-assisted beta community focused on a specific neighborhood.
Ogden, UT - In 2000, 38-year-old mayor Matthew Godfrey committed to transform Ogden into the adventure-sports capital of America and the rest is history, which now includes kayak parks; a paved trail network; a rec center with climbing wall; vertical wind tunnel; standing surf wave; holographic ice tower; aquatic centers and a velodrome. Now that’s making good on your word.
Portsmouth, NH - This tiny town of 20,000 between Boston and Portland, Maine is a model creatives destination, attracting emerging musicians and artists via eight indie theaters; a film fest; a slow-food movement; microbreweries; fast-growing young companies (gazelles) and a vibrant live music scene. Yet another story dispelling the myth that small towns can’t attract creatives.
Tacoma, WA - A new University of Washington extension provided the rejuvenation of 1920s theaters followed by new museums and a redeveloping waterfront into what is now a well-known arts town. There really is no better talent pool than a university.

Check out Outdoor’s interactive map and past winners.

Continuing our look at the best cities that are remixing, reinventing themselves, according to Best Towns 2008 from Outside magazine, here are five more, plus a number of honorable mentions:

Ithaca, New York - Conscientious innovation isn’t far off when you have Cornell University and Ithaca College as residents, and a median age of 22. The town is experiencing a green movement spearheaded by a new ecovillage, and the downtown is finally legitimizing the pedestrian-only district laid out a few decades ago.
Louisville, Kentucky - Much of the positive change in Louisville is being experienced by bicyclists, with new bikeways and bike lanes announced. The downtown is still not quite a creative hangout, anchored by a corporate entertainment center, though nearby Bardstown a couple of miles away definitely is.
Eureka, California - It has become the quintessential wilderness arts town in the middle of nowhere, gathering the community of 27,000 around a new five-block boardwalk.
Columbia, Missouri - First came an indie film house, then a film festival, then artist lofts, studios and cafes, combined with over 200 miles of bike trails, have made Columbia a southern outdoor activist’s haven.

Honorable Mentions:

Oxford, Mississippi - Fueled by its university, Ole Miss and a renowned Double Decker Arts Festival, held each spring and a mayor who runs a local indie biz.
Oakland, California - Oakland’s mayor in 1999, Jerry Brown, is making good on his promise to attract 10,000 new residents downtown.
Sacramento, California - A 240-acre redeveloping brownfield will nearly double the downtown district with 12,000 new homes, and a new 197-room boutique hotel, the Citizen, was named by Sacramento citizens.
Corvallis, Oregon - The second U.S. city (after Moab) recognized as an EPA Green Power Community, with a focus on wind and geothermal power, with a new riverfront park.
Wilmington, North Carolina - The “Wilmywood” filmmaking economy, North Carolina’s Hollywood, has helped direct scenes of a vibrant riverwalk and a historic district over 230 blocks.
Seattle, Washington - Mayor Greg Nickels has signed more than 850 U.S. cities to his U.S. Conference of Mayors Climate Protection Agreement, higher than Kyoto Protocol objectives, and calling for car free Sundays in August.
Charlottesville, Virginia - Boasts one of the most successful, largest pedestrian-only streets in the country (pictured), and one of the most comprehensive GIS-based urban tree programs.
Brattleboro, Vermont - Home to one of the largest farmers’ markets in New England, Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) farms, a predominance of locally-owned businesses, and resident-held nightly potluck dinners, Brattleboro is a sign of things to come.

How children are socialized today determines the destiny of society. Unfortunately, we have not yet learned how to raise children who can help bring about a better society.

Basically, I agree with the speaker that how children are socialized is crucial to today's society. Recently, more and more children are found to be less word, isolated with each other, addicted to various online games. Thus, it is easy to explain why the issue of children socialization turns out to be more significant than ever before. However, children's socialization is not the only task that we have to fulfill in contemporary education. A comprehensive capability shall be required in the children's education to help guarantee a better society in the future.

Admittedly, the socialization of children plays an important roll in impacting on the society destiny. Well-socialized children can improve the communication and harmony life of the society in the future so that a desirable society environment would be established to help ensure the development in all social realms, such as politics, economics, academics and various industrial fields. Other vital values, including honesty, persistence, probity and kindness and so on, have significant impact on the social development and are required to taught to children by their parents and the whole society.

How to raise children who can help bring about a better society? It has long been a hot social issue catching the public attentions in recent decades. In the past, science and culture education are put in the supreme position in the children's cultivation. With the change of the social environments and the development of the techniques, isolations between children seriously increase due to the transformation of the family structure and the addiction to the computer games and online surfing. Hence, more attentions are focused back again on the children socialization in terms of social communication, self-confidence establishment, social conscience, etc. Besides the socialization education, the professional and traditional science and culture educations are essential to how much effort and dedication they would make to the social development.

To me, in order to bring about a better society, it is crucial to promote children education both (1) in enhancing the public responsibility and the capability of social activities, as well as (2) in developing the professional skills. The former characters of the children can help form a healthy psychological condition for children themselves and establish a stable and harmony social environment in the future, which are dealing with the relationships between humans, while the later one do help for the substantial technique and social progress in the real world.

4——About facts and mistrusts

Much of the information that people assume is "facual" actually turns out to be inaccurate. Thus, any piece of information referred to as a "fact" should be mistrusted since it may well be proven false in the future.

It is true that many "facts" turns out to be false in the future. Nevertheless, it is inappropriate to deduce that any piece of information referred to as a "fact" should be mistrusted. Admittedly, on the one hand, the mistrust on the previous "facts" is the inner power to impel the technique and social evolution so that it is fairly required in almost all academic and industrial fields. On the other hand, there are wisdom of our predecessors reflecting in the traditional "factual" beliefs and methods, which can pave the way for the new progress and deserve respects.

We do need a spirit of challenging towards the authorities. Facts are always modified with the developments of techniques and human capabilities of discovering the world. Moreover, social and technique evolutions are quite often driven by the new exploring and inventions which are initially led from the mistrusts on the previous "facts". As in scientific realm, the mistrust on the old theories and researches can help human further know the real world and as well as themselves. When it comes to social fields, mistrusts often bring about reformations and transformations in fields of politics, laws, educations, etc. They often serve as impetus to diminish the social issues underlying in the current "factual" views and methods, such as discrimination, poverty, inefficient administration and among others.

However, it is inappropriate to take slighting views on the previous "facts", as implied in the speaker's statement. Although there might be mistakes in the current beliefs, they still deserve respects so that the essential parts of previous "facts" can be preserved and used as fundamental knowledge for the new developments. Hence, only when an in-depth study and analysis are made on the current authorities, can we put forward challenges and mistrusts, instead doubting and denying all the "truth". The overwhelming destroy of Chinese Culture Revolution is exactly the example to display what a terrible damage an unduly skeptical society can make.

In conclusion, a positive attitude toward the authorities and traditions should be taken. It urges us (1) to respect the previous “facts”; and (2) to spot out the mistakes with the challenging spirits, so that the inventions and reformations are encouraged, at the same time the traditional culture and history are well preserved and developed.(待续...)

1. We can usually learn much more from people whose views we share than from people whose views contradict to our own; disagreement can cause stress and inhibit learning.

Can we learn from the views that opposite to our own? To me, the answer is positive. Basically, I disagree with the speaker's assertion that contradictive oppinions are worthless for learning due to the ignorances of the following roles of the contradictive views: (1) the role in limitation breaking; (2) the role in understanding other people.

Contradictive opinions always serve to reveal the limitation in our views and studies. We live in a world filled with variety and transformation so that a certain conclusion can hardly cover the whole comprehensive circumstances. An investigation and analysis in the contradictive views can usually assist to discover an aspect that have not been taken into account in our previous studies. Or, a new inspiration may be sparkled through the understanding of the different ideas. If we just take the agreement, the evolvement of our works and studies will be strongly inhibited when it develops into a relative high level. It would be worse if this happens in the authorities. We can imagine how hopeless a government or an institution will be, where all the leaders can only bear the same opinions and exclude the opposite but fresh ideas.

Furthermore, opposite views can provide opportunities to understand other people and their considerations. Views are developed depending on the different backgrounds in terms of living styles, religious believes, educations, even economic conditions. To take disagreement as justification is to cultivate a humanism tolerence and concerns on other people in different classes. For instance, regulation drafts issued by a government sometimes cannot satisfies all the groups at the begining. To Understand the underlying reasons held by the opposite groups will be the first and crucial step to improve the regulation.

In sum, the disagreement is more likely to be an impetus to learn new knowledges and information that help refine our researches and works, rather than an inhibtion asserted in the statement. Hence, it's crucial to keep an open mind and a positive attitude toward the disagreement and the stress caused by it so that better results can evolve.

Is practicality our idol in today's world?

"Practicality is now our great idol, which all powers and talents must serve. Anything that is not obviously practical has little value in today's world."

The speaker's assertion consists of 2 implications, which are that, firstly, practicality is our idol; and, secondly, practicality is the only idol. Basically, I agree with the speaker's first part of the assertion, while the second part still begs question. In today is practicality our idol? Definitely, practicality has been widely accepted as one of the most important criteria for almost all sorts of fields with respect to the high efficency of modern life. Is practicality the unique attribution to value all the jobs and studies - one which all powers and talents must serve? It seems too arbitary to put practicality in a supreme position that anything is worthless without it.

It's easy to acknowledge why practicality become today's model. Practicality is regarded as a significant quality to help develop the researchs and inventions into useful methods or products to solve issues in all kinds of fields, such as social developments, economic strategies, science, engineer, law, medicine, psychology, etc. Admittedly, it's practical works who have immediate impact on the social and technique developments, which can be directly reflected in our daily life. Thus, there is no reason for the public to deny that practicality is our idol in today's world.

Nevertheless, the speaker's assertion fails to cover the fields where practicality doesn't play a significant role. We appreciate practicality in the fields where the researches or jobs focus on seeking for commonness and generalization. Nevertheless, there is another form of human endeavors that personality and particularity are the main qualities, such as fine arts, musics, films, literatures, etc, especially those avant-guard ones in contemporary arts. Those masterpieces are admired and become successful mostly attributing to their new explorings and displayings, in terms of content, objective, or methods, etc, instead of practicality that the speakers worshipped in the statement.

Moreover, in the statement the speaker puts emphasis on the "obvious practicality", indicating that the speaker ignores the might-be long and complicated process, through which a foundamental theory can develop into a practical work. Many of the practical works were basis on other related theories and results that may be not apparently practical. If we do not give sufficient support to the preliminary works, how can those practical works evolve? For instance, the heritage studies and preservation jobs do not involve much obvious practicality for modern life. However, it has been widely accepted that the basic heritage preservation jobs and related researches are crucial for nations and the whole world, mostly due to the irreversibility and irreplacability of the heritage and as well as the latent value behind the preservation researches to serve as foundamental work for future uses and inventions. On the other hand, before the works finish, no one can tell whether the results of the works would turn out to be practical or a catalyst to stimulate other practical works.  Hence, it's logically unjustifiable to discriminate and abandon the works and researches without apparent and immediate practicality.

In sum, practicality is our idol in today's world, but not the only criteria to evaluate whether works deserve finance and talent support. In my opinion, practical works, as direct solutions to immediate needs, do deserve supports of power and talent, while there must be certain jobs and subsidies assigned for those researches without obvious practicality, such as contempary arts, history and abstract theories studies, etc.

Our responsibility to save endangered species

"At various times in the geologist past, many species become extinct as a result of natural, rather than human, process. Thus, there is no justification for society to make extrodinary efforts, especially at a great cost in money and jobs, to save endangered species.

The speaker concedes that it is not worthy to spend great money and jobs to save endangered species, especially those whose extinction is not resulted by human beings. Obviously, the short-term economic and social benifit is put on the first place in this statement. However, the speaker fails to foresee a long-term damage by destroying the variety of nature species;  and fail to find out the factors behind the so-called natural process, which is considered as the reason of many endangered species, are actually still related to the conduct of humans. Nevertheless the economic capacity should be taken into considered, yet, we shall regard the endagered species saving as a significant task and make as much as efforts we could to protect the variety of nature species and balance of the natural environment.

First, the speaker ignores the irreversibility of the extinct species. As known to all, the variety of species guarentees the natural harmony and balance. Once we let some species become extinct, no matter how much to compensate after their extinctions, they will never come back again.  Moreover, it's much more dangerous to concede that the economic development is more significant than protecting natural environment and species. That's why the notion of "sustainable development", which urges us to maintain a moderate development pace and leave more margin for our offsprings, becomes more and more popular and accepted by many countries. After all, we can recover what we have produced, but we can never regain what we killed, which is only created by the nature.

Second, the underlying causes behind those natural possesses that caused the specie extinction are mostly still the overwhelming human activities. Actually, many so-called natural processes are mainly impacted by the deteriorating environmental quailities in terms of the global warming, air and water pollutions, and forests nibbled by the sprawlling cities, etc, bywhich many species can no longer breed in the previous environments, which is essential to the boom of the species, and they become weaker and extinct in the end. Although not directly harm to the extinctions of some species, human, as the most powerful life-form changing the world, should take the responsibility to control their damages to the natural environment and protect the species live with us.

Despite the limits of duty of saving endangered species varied by the different economic conditions of countries, we are obligated to make extraodinary efforts if the economic conditions allow. For those developing countries, the first duty is to reduce the harmful activities to the environment, including the emission of CO2 and other noxious gas to the air, disafforestation, water pollution, and so forth, which are mainly produced by the large-scale developing and constructing activities in those countries. As to developed countries, with sufficient economic and technique supports, they should never hesitate to spend money and jobs to species saving and the researches on them.

In sum, although the issue that why many species become extinct is complex and controversial, it should be clear that only our human beings are able to and obligated to take the responsiblity to prevent the species extinction and save the endangered ones. Sacrifying a limited money to save endangred species can bring about an infinit harmony natural environment for us all.
